Building a Partnership With Parents
We encourage every parent to play an integral part in their child’s learning.
Research shows that parental involvement will enhance your child’s academic performance. Here are a number of ways you can be involved. Volunteering in the Classroom
How Can Working Parents Help? We recognize that some parents work and are unable to volunteer in the school day. You may wonder, “What can I do?” Here is an idea that may work for you and would be a tremendous help to us! Everyday we scour the internet for new hands-on activities that support your child’s learning. We find countless file folder games, plus math, science, and language hand’s on activities that would be fun and benefit your child's education. We'll supply you with printed material. We need you to cut, staple, sort and assemble these hands-on activities. For All Parents — Read to your child! Would you like to give your child a great gift? One of the greatest educational gifts you can give to your child is READ! READ! READ! to your child. Research shows that the single most important thing you can do for your child’s learning is to read aloud to him or her. Simply take 10 minutes every day to read to your child. Just think in one week you'll have read over one hour together plus you'll spend quality time with your child. Now that will make a difference! Communicating With Us We believe on-going communication between parents and teachers is essential. In Person, Telephone, and E-mail: We welcome open communication by person, telephone or e-mail of any thoughts or feelings pertaining to preschool. If questions or concerns arise please contact us immediately so we can address the issues. Your Input: We value what you think and feel thus we welcome any suggestions or ideas of how we can improve our preschool. Communicating With You We strongly believe by fostering strong communication ties with you we’ll better serve/support you and your child. Here are a number of ways we’ll communicate with you. Daily Preschool Report This individualized report includes information about the two sessions when a teacher modeled hands-on learning activities, plus child evaluation, circle time activities, what center(s) your child chose, daily snack, story(s) read, and a personal note from the teacher. Monthly Newsletters Newsletters will help keep you informed about what’s happening in the classroom, important dates, and other news. E-mail Photo’s For your enjoyment, we'll send classroom e-photos of your child and classmates involved in fun preschool activities. Some photos will have captions; other photos will speak for themselves. Good News Post Cards or Positive Telephone Calls Periodically we’ll call or write sharing your child’s social and/or academic accomplishments. Other times we’ll want to share with you the special moments, actions, and words that reflect the uniqueness of your child. Student Assessment Four times per year the parent/guardian will receive a student academic assessment. This will include recognizing upper and lowercase letters, numbers 1-20, colors, shapes, and simple patterns; creating AB, AABB, and ABC patterns. There will also be an oral language and listening assessment. These assessments will be handled in a “playful fun manner.” The outcome will serve as a gauge for both teacher and parent of what your child is learning and the areas that need to be worked on. Parent-Teacher Conference In January and April you may sign up for a one-on-one parent conference. We'll discuss what is working with your child and discuss future individual goals. We'll show you hands-on activities that may be used at home to support your child in meeting those goals. |
